Jalen Daquan Antwoine Harris was born on April 19, 2001 at 6:32 PM to Summer
Netterville and Jerry Harris in Chicago, IL. He was the youngest of the three boys they
shared together. Despite being the youngest, Jalen always seemed like he was the
oldest, as he was undoubtedly the protector of his family- especially to the women of
the family. When it specifically came to his mother, keeping her safe was his number
one priority. After 19 impactful years here on earth, Jalen was welcomed into heaven on
February 18, 2021 joining his father, Big Jerry, and his great-aunt, Auntie Bit, who both
preceded him in death, along with other family and friends.
Jalen was admired by friends and family for his big heart, and even bigger smile that
always lit up any room he was in. Children loved him for his nurturing and playful spirit,
and the ladies loved him for his looks and his charm. Jalen was loyal beyond measure,
and always did his best to come through for any friend or family member he cared
about. He was very family oriented; he loved spending time with his big brothers,
listening to music, and everything about sports. He was the best brother, especially to
his little sister Tamia, or as he called her his “MaMa”.
Jalen was always very popular in school and social settings, making him a favorite on
both sides of his family and even to strangers. His intelligence and his personality were
at the root of the numerous awards, certificates, and trophies that Jalen earned
throughout his school years. Jalen graduated from Cather Elementary School, and was
a graduate of the 2019 class of Morgan Park High School. He was hard-working and
very passionate, and he genuinely enjoyed his time working in customer service for
Hang ‘Em High Coat and Baggage Check in Chicago, IL.
Jalen accepted Christ in his life at a young age, and was baptized at The Church of
Living Faith under the leadership of Rev. Milton L. Shelby. Being around Jalen was
always good vibes, filled with fun and jokes- maybe some fights too- but it was always
all love in the end. Jalen feared hardly anything in life, which was one of the reasons
many people admired him and described him as “lion-hearted”. His life was truly just
beginning.
Jalen leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Summer Netterville, his brothers:
Jerry and Jeremiah Harris and Justin Burnley, his sister Tamia Douglas, his
grandmothers C. Annette Williams “Sugar” and Cynthia “Lulu” Muhammad (Lionel), his
grandfathers, Harvey Netterville and Jerry Harris, his great-grandfather, Freddie Powell,
his aunts, Sheila Franklin and Sherrie Harris, his uncle, Nolan Harris (Taquita), his
special great aunt and uncle, Auntie Cindy and Uncle Kevin Beasley, his nieces
Harmony Harris, Cali Turner and unborn niece, Journey Jalynn-Monét Harris, his
nephews, Jaharie and Jelani Harris, his special cousins: Glenda, Brittany, Carlicia,
Cindy “Alex”, Devon “Man-Man”, Kamri, De’Avion “Cha-Cha”, Davion “Bay Bay”, and
Chris all of whom he shared more of a brother/sister bond with, and a host of other
nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
