Lucinda (miss pearl) Whittington Obituary

Lucinda “Pearl” Whittington was born February 19,1932 In Pace, Mississippi to Willie and Sophie Nelson. In her early years, she moved with her family to Chicago IL. While living in Morgan Park she attended Schoop Grammer School and Morgan Park High School. Pearl accepted Christ at an early age. She joined the Beth Eden Baptist Church, singing with the Wooten Chorale Ensemble. She was united in holy matrimony to Joseph Airhart. This union blessed her with her only child Pamela Airhart.

Upon the death of her mother and father, she continued to run the family owned grocery store. With the help of her sister Catherine, Pearl decided to change the store into “Pearl’s Diner”. She later began her career at the United States Postal Service, where she worked as a mail clerk and union steward. After 26 years, Pearl decided to early retire to raise her grandchildren; Stephen, Michael, William, Stephanie, Dominique, and Schlisa. Also lending a helping hand in raising her great grandchildren; Stephen Jr, Antonio, Brittany, Brianna, Michael, and ShaMeeya.

Pearl loved to cook and could always bring everyone together.  She enjoyed watching the Bulls, doing crossword puzzles, scratching lottery tickets, and drinking her Pepsi. She was the neighborhood grandma, and everyone loved her. She peacefully departed this life Tuesday March 3rd, 2020. She was proceeded in death by her parents Willie and Sophie, sisters; Mary Alice, Ruby Lee, Catherine, Martha Alice, brothers; Charlie and Ely and grandson Stephen.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the life of her child, Pamela Airhart. Grandchildren: Michael (Pamela) Airhart, Ernie (Justine) Scatton, William (LaGuardia) Airthart, Stephanie Airhart, Dominique Airhart, and Schlisa Airhart. Also, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who loves her dearly.
