Erma L . Curlett was born o n May 4, 1928, in Crystal Springs,
Mississippi t o the marital union of Mann Green (Paw Paw) &
Florence Martin Green (Big Mama). As the matriarch of our
family, she was preceded i n death by her parents and all o f
her siblings, her brothers, Wilbert, Terrell, Clifton, (Twins)
Shelly & Kelly Green, Vera Green Triplett, Annie Boyer
Johnson, & Minnie L. Arrington.
I n 1946, Erma moved t o Chicago, Illinois, where she was
affectionately known as "Mama Lynn" ". She built a life rooted
in faith, family and public service. Erma confessed her belief
and love for Jesus Christ a t an early age, she was baptized at
Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained
a devoted member for more than 7 5 years. She served
faithfully on the Pastor's Aide committee, Social Club #4, and
worked tirelessly i n the food ministry. Often rising at 4:00
a.m. t o prepare meals for her church family. She continued
serving until her health declined.
Mama Lynn's generosity extended far beyond the church
walls. She supported coworkers, friends, tenants, and she
had a n undying love for young people. She contributed to
their growth, development, education endeavors, while
offering wisdom and encouragement all throughout their
lives.
Erma was a licensed practical nurse and served as a
pediatric nurse a t Cook County Hospital for over 3 8 years,
caring for children (especially addicted babies) and
comforting families with dedication & compassion.
On October 3, 1948, Erma & her husband welcomed their only
child Mable Jean Lynn. There home quickly became a place
of refuge, welcoming migrating family members t o Chicago.
As an exceptional employee, Erma balanced double shifts,
childcare, cooking all while owning & manging fifty one
apartment units a t various locations throughout the south
side o f Chicago alongside her loving husband William Norris
Curlett. They were a united team i n every way, building a
strong foundation while demonstrating & imparting strong
family values & stability.
Mama Lynn was a stern loving disciplinarian yet empathetic
to those less fortunate than her. She had a remarkable
ability t o encourage & equip others to suceed i n their chosen
career path. Mama Lynn's life was a true testimony of faith
i n action, service to others, good deeds, steadfast with a
quiet strength. Her legacy will forever live on i n every life she
touched.
She made her peaceful with her loving daughter 25,2026, at 11:26 a.m.

Mama Lynn leaves t o celebrate her life, love and eternal
memory her only child Mable Jean Harris, her beloved
grandson, Pastor Rodney Beasley who preceded her in death,
Gregory Adams (Pauline), her granddaughters, Yolanda
Beasley-Thompson (Joe), Carmen Gunderson (Al), Andrea
Adams, Yvonne Beasley, RaShawn Walker (Bryant), June
Jones Europe (Wilfred). She has 19 great grandchildren, 38
great-great grandchildren, her beloved sisters-in-love Otis
Green & Lela Green.
Her beloved Metropolitan Church family, special mention o f
Bertha Floyd, Janice Meeks, Ann Simmons and of course we can’t forget Mr.john.
